Other than that, getting the most out of this app is a matter of learning/configuration. If you stick to big-name plugs, things seem mostly fine and you can get things done. But some are subject to interpretation and it appears they've changed their own interpretations between versions, which doesn't speak highly of the company and/or their "standards" (you pick, one or the other is troubled). ![]() I'm sure they're technically right and it really IS the 3rd parties fault, since Steiny rights the rules. When things go bad, it's always the plugs fault, even though WL7 changed it's own wiring since WL6, so plugs that worked there may not in WL7. PSP, Flux and other DSP-heavy plugs have a variety of issues - some plugs work, others don't (hint: move your menu bar to the bottom, if you plan to use PSP presets!). But do they have to be dicks about implementation? VST plugs that work fine in Nuendo and Cubase don't necessarily work in WL7. OK, they own the standard, so it's no worse than RTAS, whatever. First it's a rare duck on the mac, supporting VST plugs only (most mac apps support AU first, VSTs are secondary). If you're using plugs, you run into Steinberg Hubris. ![]() Even on their forum, they're recommending you capture to another instance of WL7 or different app, when you have problems. Likewise rendering with external gear is a total crapshoot - drop outs, glitches and errors pile up like rocks in an avalanche, making it a waste of time. And since they can only be inserted across master buss, useless for individual track processing, and inflexible in placement. The ASIO inserts (or on mac, CoreAudio falsely NAMED "ASIO" - really dumb and needlessly confusing - why not call it "External I/O" which is more intuitive and accurate on both platforms?) are not saved with the file. I agree that the documentation is the biggest issue - not just the missing manual, but the missing tutorials and quick-starts and other resources to explain this complex program, and introduce new features/capabilities in an organized way.įunctionally, the ASIO I/O inserts and rendering with outboard gear is a hot mess. ![]()
